Impressed!!!!!

The starters were totally impressive! Given the wideouts were really the second team this is even more impressive. Hixon for president. Special team coverage still a problem, but seems to be the only black cloud. Going to be a fun year.

Where did Ware come from?

Danny Ware has had two great pre-season games for the NY Giants.

He is an undrafted player from Georgia.

Interesting Statistic

When was the last time a player scored three touchdowns in one quarter for our NY Giants?

Answer: Tucker Fredrickson in 1965.

Hixon is "The Man" !!!!

NFL COUNTDOWN ON ESPN

Chris Berman starts the show with the panel saying in unison "GEEEEEE-MEN!

Lots of good chatter about our team.

It's Monday night, August 18th and just 45 minutes before our preseason game with the Cleveland Browns and Eli is going to play without any of his regular receivers (Burress, Toomer, Tyree).

Starting Wide Receivers

There is real concern with our starting wide receivers not getting much practice time.Yesterday Eli voiced a concern over it.Plax,Toomer, Smith plus Tyree and Manningham have been out almost all camp. Not a good way to get in sync with Eli.Maybe coach Ulsamer has a shot at stepping in to help out!

The Madden Curse

Uh-Oh! This may not be good news for Brettie and the Jets!

The Madden Curse
(Article: Wikipedia; Image: EA Sports)

Prior to 1999, every annual installment of the Madden NFL series primarily featured John Madden on its cover. In 1999, Electronic Arts selected Garrison Hearst to appear on the cover, and has since featured one of the league’s top players on every annual installment.

Since then, certain players have experienced a decline in performance, usually due to an injury. For example, quarterback Michael Vick appeared on the cover of Madden 2004, and suffered a leg injury that sidelined him for most of the 2004 season. In a similar example, running back Shaun Alexander, then the league’s reigning Most Valuable Player, was featured on the cover of Madden NFL 2007, and sustained a foot injury that caused him to miss six starts. As a result, Alexander’s rushing statistics were substantially less than those from the previous season.

When asked about the “Madden Curse”, Chris Erb, the EA Sports director of marketing, commented, “I don't know that we believe in the curse. The players don't believe in the curse” Greg Pearson, a writer for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, commented that string of injuries that Madden cover athletes experience can be attributed to physical-nature of football. Shaun Alexander himself has claimed, “Do you want to be hurt and on the cover, or just hurt."

When Vince Young appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live to officially announce that he would appear on the cover of Madden NFL 2008, he derided allegations of becoming the curse’s next victim, and stated, “I done prayed about it and we're gonna go home and try to get to the playoffs and try to get to the Super Bowl. We'll see what happens.” Prior to the announcement, various sources reported that LaDainian Tomlinson, then the league's reigning MVP, was originally selected to appear on the cover of the game. Some of Tomlinson's fans, who believed in the Madden Curse, were strongly opposed to EA Sports' initial decision, so much that a fan created saveltfrommadden.com to voice their disdain. Tomlinson eventually declined the offer, but stated it was solely due to contract negotiations.

Plaxico deal could be done

This, by way of Ralph Vacciano at The Blue Screen. Plax, it should be noted, went to Michigan State. Photo: Newsday

August 5th

UPDATE 9:09 P.M.: Drew Rosenhaus said he expects to spend tonight and tomorrow talking with the Giants in hopes of finally hammering out a new contract for Plaxico Burress.

He confirmed for the Daily News that he did arrive in Albany for face-to-face negotiations with assistant GM Kevin Abrams, that are still ongoing. Asked if he thought the sides are closer than they had been, he declined to characterize the negotiations.

However, it seems clear that he wouldn’t have flown back to Albany for the third time since training camp opened on July 24 if he didn’t think something could get done.

“We’re still in discussions with the Giants and there’s nothing to report at this time,” Rosenhaus told the News. “I’m sure we’ll spent the night talking with the Giants and into tomorrow. This is the third time we’ve been up here. We’re certainly working as hard as we can to get this done.

Burress, who has three years and $10.5 million left on his current contract, is apparently seeking a deal worth $8-9 million per year. The Giants have expressed a willingness to give him a raise, but the negotiations weren’t going fast enough for Burress so he staged a mini-protest in June and sat out the team’s mini-camp.

A few weeks later, Burress thought a deal was imminent, but sources said the two sides were never particularly close. The Giants, wary of all the injuries Burress has suffered in the past year, were not willing to approach the Terrell Owens-like salaries their top receiver was demanding, and as a result the talks essentially broke off.

Now they are back on and could reach a conclusion tomorrow.

Burress, meanwhile, is still sidelined with an injured ankle and has not practiced at all during the first 12 days of camp.
